When we had Brynlee's 6 month check-up her pediatrician suggested we start giving her some practice using a sippy cup. She went on to say that to start out we could put some water or juice inside (and since neither have any nutritional benefit, she suggested water). As a nursing mom who knows how precious breast milk is, I'm very grateful we aren't letting her toss the "gold" around.
Brynlee had her first sippy cup experience on Tuesday, May 22nd (26 weeks and 5 days) and she found it to be quite interesting. We've given her her cup each day since for a little bit to let her get a feel for it.
I introduced a second cup at 27 weeks and 2 days. I love how she used her foot to help hold the cup!
I wanted to let her try different kinds so I bought the second cup I had on my list based on reviews. The first cup, Gerber Graduates/Nuk Stage 1 has handles and is short and squatty and holds 7 oz. (they sell them in cuter patterns in the stores). The second cup, Nuby Super Spout - Gripper Cup has no handles and is tall and hourglass-shaped and holds 10 oz.
In no way do I expect her to be able to hold these up very long right now, especially the one with no handles, but I want her to have the practice, as does her pediatrician. And frankly I don't see a better activity during play time then playing with something that will help her hold her own drink one day (as much as that breaks my heart).
Sweet Girl, I love being by your side as you see, feel, and taste new things! I thank our Father every day for blessing me with you!
