Dishwasher magnet

Peter and I've had a dirty/clean magnet from Bed Bath & Beyond for as long as I can remember..it's decently cute and we definitely use it. But, I wanted something cuter so when I came across Suzy's blog, Joy Is At Home, and found her easy peasy free dishwasher magnet tutorial I was sold. The tutorial can be found here and the Pinterest pin here.

I decided to make a few changes to her tutorial just to tailor it to our kitchen a little more, so here's how I created mine (if you like hers for your kitchen head on over and check out her tutorial I listed above)..

Supplies:
-Old CD (thankfully I've saved them over the years knowing I'd find lots of crafty uses for them!)
-Magnet (use one from a restaurant or clinic, or take one off an old magnet)
-E6000 or Gorilla Glue
-Scrapbook paper
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Mod Podge
-Foam brush
-Sandpaper or nail file (thanks for the nail file tip, Suzy!)
-Stencil or sticker (I had saved letters from a previous Silhouette project)
-Thin Sharpie
-Regular Sharpie
-Ribbon
-Tape

Steps:
1. Glue your magnet onto the back of the CD, covering the hole. I peeled off a strip from our previous dishwasher magnet.
2. Trace your CD onto the back of your scrapbook paper and cut it out.
3. Put Mod Podge onto the CD and lay the scrapbook paper on top, smoothing out any bubbles.
4. After 30 seconds-1 minute, use the sandpaper or nail file to file the edges to take off any paper that may be hanging off of the edge.
5. Put Mod Podge on top of the paper and let it dry.
6. Put on your stickers or trace your stencil with your pencil, followed by the thin Sharpie, and then color in the letters as desired using a regular Sharpie.
7. Cut your ribbon slightly longer than the width of the CD. Center the ribbon and tape the excess to the back.
8. Mod Podge over the CD one more time to help seal everything together, giving it a nice gloss so hopefully if any wet hands touch it it won't be damaged!
9. Stick on your dishwasher and enjoy! (Before and after)
I just love how it turned out!

P.S. This would be a c-u-t-e gift for newlyweds or new homeowners!
