Guest bedroom headboard

I have despised our guest bedroom bed frame and bed since the day we brought it home. I loved that we got a great deal on it all and that it matched, but it took Peter, my step-dad, and my father-in-law to get the mattress into the frame..and because the mattress is a box spring/mattress all-in-one, it was a pain in my boot-tay to make.
I looked like a lion attacking its prey every single time I went to make the bed.

So when we were coming up with our list of projects to do before Baby I sheepishly threw out the idea of getting rid of the bed frame and making a headboard and buying a simple frame. Thankfully the Hubster was on board and a few weeks ago we got to work making my dreams come true. (It's the little things sometimes.)
My inspiration? This pin on Pinterest.

We found a simple metal bed frame on Craigslist for $20.00. SCORE!

Then a few days later on my way to the grocery store I saw someone tearing down their fence and had Peter pick up some of the wood. Free headboard..SCORE!
Peter built the frame, hammered in the boards, cut the edges, sanded it, and sealed it. I love the rich color the stain brought out. I couldn't be more pleased with my handy man! I love it!
No more wrestling the sheets for this girl! Annnd now I have a headboard that can be decorated for the holidays with some bunting. :)

  1. Great job! I've often wanted to snatch up old fence boards when I see someone throwing them away but never have. This looks great! Maybe next time I just will! :)

P.S. What "fruit" are you this week?

  2. Very nicely done! What a great after shot, and I love the colors on the pillows! (If my youngest had a room of her own, I think it would be green and purple. She's 14 months so she doesn't really care though ;)

  8. Beautiful! How did you attach it to the wall/bed to make it sturdy? i've always wanted to try something similar but was worried about stability...

My husband built a frame in the back that makes a square. He nailed the wood pieces into that and hung that onto the wall.

  12. How is this attached to wall? I absolutely love it! Use to be a Pottery Barn addict but I love the thought of repurposing FREE materials! It is such a special touch. LOVE your new bed.

Thank you so much! My husband put a 2x4 and attached it to the wall. The headboard then sits on that. Super easy and sturdy!
